Writing for television, live action and animation, with prolific television writer, children’s’ writer and celebrity ghost writer, Di Redmond |
It is hardly surprising that Deia has attracted so many poets, artists and writers who have found their muse in a village that has barely changed when all around has. Robert Creeley, Anthony Burgess, Alan Sillitoe, Brian Patten and Robert Graves found their muse in Deia.
Graves’ spirit is everywhere – in the steep, winding sun-baked streets, on the terraces bristling with myrtle, rosemary and ancient gnarled olive trees, in the ramshackle fishermen’s huts where freshly caught sardines are spit roasted every day, in the church perched on a high hill top where Graves and his wife lie buried and in his home Ca n’Allunny with its back to the mountains and its face to the sea.
It is impossible to contain the muse in such a landscape; the very beauty of Deia generates creative thought, ideas crowd in, sentences are formed unbidden in your head, you reach for a pen – you itch to write!
